The blossom or the sword.... there is so much beauty in the world for it to be wasted on war...
Paper card collage on a 5 x 7 in. index card of Japan/Kiku Honda from Axis Powers Hetalia
Looking through history, Japan is indeed a country of two faces, one of honor and violence, another of sagacity and the beauty in living with the seasons. I wanted make him look torn between these two cultures, but despite his sadness, he embraces and reflects on both as they are both undeniably himself. (this sounds too serious to be hetalia =-=; )
Except for Japan, who was inked and cut out from an index card, everything was cut from authentic origami and chiyo-gami ("fancier" origami made from traditional "washi" paper which has a heavier texture similar to textiles).
So many details are lost in the scan ;_; all the shimmery-shiny-ness...
You can't really see it here, but there is also white washi paper glued as the background of the card to give it a rougher texture in real life. I used metallic acrylic paint to paint the gold trim on his uniform as well as the gold on the sheath for a "lacquer" effect. There is also gold brushed onto the cherry blossom petals (which I cut out one by one from origami @_@; ) so they shimmer.

It's so beautiful! The details you put in it are beautiful~ *o*
(The only thing I have to say about the actual drawing, is Japan's hand that is on his sword. It looks a bit... thin. His fingers should be a little wider, and the top of his palm doesn't need to be seen. Other than that, everything is perfect! :3 But don't mind me, I'm just a little artist that pays too much to details o.o)
.... Holy fudge. This is too good.... O ____ O No no, serious Hetalia is good. * A * I think Japan's like that as well.... So much meaning * - *` This obviously had a lot of effort put into it.. Really great job * A * <3
